Ahoy kids, it’s that time of the week where I bless your ears with three of the best tunes that I’ve stumbled over in the previous week. Aren’t you lucky?
Brace yourselves, I’m going in dry!
First track this week is an ode to the weed and damage done, over an unnervingly cheerful Krate Krusader beat, courtesy of Res of the Split Prophets. You’ve got to admire this boys skills, there’s some serious verbal dexterity and a great flow on Mary Jane Skit.
From the starting point of Foreigner’s Cold As Ice, they’ve lashed a big Ghetto Funk bass’n'drums over it and cut out most of the vocals aside from the well known hook (courtesy of M.O.P.) to create a full bore banger.I can see this one causing some seriously large dancefloor ass-shakery when played over a decent system.
Last up this week is a bit a curveball for me – anyone for some thoroughly stomping Roadhouse Blues?
Have some Gary Clark Jr then.
Don’t Owe You A Thing is very much in the vein of pre-Danger Mouse Black Keys, chucked in a blender with the grumpier end of Seasick Steve‘s output – featuring a storming guitar hook, howling vocal and some serious footstomping, this is a humdinger of a tune.
Sometimes (usually late at night, with a whiskey in hand), stuff like this just works.
(Props to Joe Driscoll for hooking me up with this )
