How’s this for commitment – I’m working my arse off in Paris this week and I still find the time to give your ears their weekly education …
I considered making this a ‘French Special’ in light of my location, and putting my favourite Francophone tracks up here, but thought that it’d be cheating a little, so here you go, three of the freshest cuts to hit my ears this week.
Next week it’ll (hopefully) be Rome that I post this from – provided I can find a wireless network!
First up is a definite late night number I found via Beatfanatic (whose album Adventures in No-Fi Beats is well worth a look by the way). Neon Heights & Musica Hermosa / Harlem hits the spot with some thoroughly trippy vocal samples, a mellow little bassline, and guitars straight out of the Pink Floyd school – this should see you through a whole summers worth of BBQs.
Think this might be another EP upon the ‘WANT!’ list …
You can tell the summer is a coming in when more and more tracks start appearing sampling dusty old reggae beats, and this is one of my favourites this week.
Spotted by the mighty Spinforth from HongKongPingPong on his weekly Soundcloud Scour series, this one is a Freddy Pimms special, sampling Notorious B.I.G. and the Viceroys to come up with a belter called Dead Wrong (Freddy Pimms Remix)
Download link is here.
Finally for this week is another cracking tune I picked up from the Ali B podcasts I’ve mentioned previously – this time it’s a wonderfully subtle refix of a soul classic by Otis Redding, tweaked by Jim Sharp – this is It’s Too Late (Jim Sharp Re-Edit)
