Three on a Thursday(ish …) #34

Boom-chicka-wow-wow it’s that time of the week again and I’m in a funktacular mood – guess what that means for todays selections?

I think this upbeat mood is in large part caused by only working a 3- 1/2 day week as I’m off to that Laaaaahdahn tonight, where Creeday and myself will be mixing it up on the 1’s and 2’s in support of Celeste Dos Santos and the Tabloid Queens at the Alley Cat on Denmark St in Soho for the evening – pop in an say hello!

Onwards!

First track this week is a lovely little smooth funk remix of the DJ Love track Something Like This done by that doyen of the UK funk scene, the good Dr Rubberfunk. With a loping vocal from party hip-hop legend Special Ed, and a nice line in crisp snares and crafty cuts this should warm up the dancefloor nicely!

Next is a track from that highly talented dubwise remixer Sam Redmore that he did a while back (can’t believe I missed it first time round to be honest). Dog With A Rope / On & On is exactly what it says on the tin, merging the Erykah Badu classic, with nuevo-latin boy Quantic in his Flowering Inferno guise. Proper summery lushness.

Last number this week is a bit of a funk laden monster mashup from DJP. Taking vocals the Kanye West, Nas & KRS-One from Classic, he’s shoved a b-boy enticing break and horn line underneath to give us Classic (Better than I’ve Ever Been) (DJP’s Turn It Up Refix). If this is your kind of thing, head over to his Facebook page and bag yourself a copy.

About djsherlockohms

Obsessive music nerd for since his formative years, Sherlock Ohms finally pulled his finger out and started inflicting his collection of Funk, Soul, Hip-hop, Reggae, Breaks, Beats and random ephemera on the unwitting public in mid-2008. Since then he's graced the airwaves of Big Chill FM and Purple Radio, the stages of the Festinho festival, and the DJ booths of the UK fluffing for the likes of DJ Moneyshot, Boca 45 and Ugly Duckling. Whether it's early morning chilled wig outs, or eclectic party starting beat fests there's a reason they call him 'No Shit Sherlock' View all posts by djsherlockohms
