Three on a Thursday #43

Ahoy campers!

How the devil are you?

Good?

I’m feeling rather chipper this week, for no particular reason really (other than the fact that I’ve only got twelve days work left at work this year, and the fact I’ve had a couple of pints) so this is definitely an upbeat selection for your ears this week.

If you’re out and about tonight I’ll be down at No. 51 Stokes Croft having a beer with Rackabeat & Bar-low, and Hidden Riddim at the launch of their new night, so if you like these selections, you can come and buy me a pint.

Right, onwards to the music!

Hip-hop royalty first up  for you with a new(-ish) remix, well, utter reworking really, of  Jay-Z‘s  Public Service Announcement from the legend that is Paul Nice, adding a  welcome dose of boom-bap, as well as sirens, smashing glass and KRS-One to a track which started as an interlude from the Black Album, turning it into a belter. If you like this beat, check his ‘Beats for Weeks’ series – he drops a new beat every Tuesday and is up to #23 now. There are some crackers in there!

From a hugely well known hip-hop remixer to one who thoroughly deserves more recognition, Brighton-boy, Tom Caruana. Fresh from producing beats for Professor Elemental,  remixing DOOM and Large Professor and mashing up The Wu-Tang with The Beatles,  Jimi Hendrix and anything that’ll stand still really. He’s taken Stone Throw favourite Quasimotos track The Broad Factor and chucked it in a blender with some Mad Skillz track The Nod Factor and some Bollywood beats to give us The Broad Nod Factor.

Wrap your ears around this one …

Finally this week is a cut and paste break-hop number from a favourite of mine, BadboE, mashing together more classic funk and hip-hop samples than I have fingers and toes (bear in mind I come from a *very* small village in the Midlands, where many are blessed with spare digits)  on Freak Hop Pt 2. Serious dancefloor bidness.

Vodpod videos no longer available.

Since then he's graced the airwaves of Big Chill FM and Purple Radio, the stages of the Festinho festival, and the DJ booths of the UK fluffing for the likes of DJ Moneyshot, Boca 45 and Ugly Duckling. Whether it's early morning chilled wig outs, or eclectic party starting beat fests there's a reason they call him 'No Shit Sherlock' View all posts by djsherlockohms
