Joy! I found new summery stylings from the Dirty Dubsters Digital boys nestling in my inbox this morning, like some tropical hummingbird here to chase the grey murkiness of November away for, well, at least for as long as their new Latin Swing Allstars EP plays out anyway.
The opener from Smugdruggler (see what he did there?) sounds like the old gimmers from the Buena Vista Social Club discovered the 909 clap and kick drum and sprinkled it liberally all over their trademark jangling piano riffs and blazing horn lines
Spaced Invaders have taken a classic and given in a thorough two stepping kick up the backside. Featuring trumpets dripping in dub delay and a bubbly little synth bassline this brings it right up to date – may I present, It Don’t Mean a Ting
Blog favourite, Panama Cardoon drops his trademark cool-as-a -polar-bear-in-your-deep-freezer latin beats next, channelling Tito Puente with Shingaling – I was struggling to sit still for this infectiously groovving little hip-shaker. I can just imagine this being played in a late night illict rum bar in downtown Havana …
Last up, those Dirty Dubsters pull it back to funk end of latin territory with some ‘whack-chucka’ guitars laced over the top a chugging reggae tinged break with Latin Lighter – quality.
Available now from loadsa places, but here’s a link to the housewife’s favourite, junodownload
