Sorry about the lack of Three on a Thursdays recently, but due to extreme laptop death I’ve been somewhat out of the loop.
Two things this little incident has taught me
1) If you’re a digital DJ, and don’t back your tunes and settings up, you’re a dick. Either get an external hardrive, or back your stuff up to the cloud. I used zovo and it was seamless, an is dirt cheap for the piece of mind it gives me.
Right, never mind all that – on to the tunes!
First up this week is that rarest of beast, unsolicited email spam featuring a tune I actually like! (as opposed to the reams of bad trance and deep house – goes to show how well they read the blog before mailing me, eh?)
The Mouse Outfit are a jazzy funky hip-hoppy band/production collective out of Manchester. Never Get Enough features local scallywags Dubbul O and Sparkz dropping laconic bars over the top of a beat laced with reverb drenched 60’s guitars and spacey loops. Available fer gratis as well
They’re currently touring with one of this blogs favourite MCs, Dr Syntax, so keep your eyers peeled for ’em hitting your town – I will be.
Something old, something new … if the last track was the recent, then this is the classic.
Thanks to the Facebook posts of DJ Moneyshot, I’ve been trawling through the ‘Sample Flip’ interviews on egotripland, which cover a series of legendary Hip-hop producers waxing lyrical on their favourite uses of samples in classic tracks. Featuring the likes of Prince Paul, DJ Spinna, Large Professor and Lord Finesse, amongst a whole host more. Many hours of happy trawling, not to mention a rather large discogs wishlist, I chanced upon this beaut by Slick Rick.
It’s a Boy originally featured on his Behind Bars album, and this Large Professor remix is an ‘extra’. Get involved.
