It’s that time of the week again – new tunes to my ears dropped into yours.
IF you like this sort of thing there’s a stack of good stuff on the go at the mo.
Tonight the Riddim Fruit boys Rackabeat and Bar-low with at Number 51 and on Saturday is WHOMP! time again at Basement 45 on Saturday.
There’s also a chance to see me dig back into my 15 year old selfs record bag as I’m in the hot seat for Purple Radio’s School of Rock show on Friday afternoon … nary a breakbeat in sight.
Enough pimpin’, on with the tunes.
I say a “Producer from Berlin” and what kind of music do you expect to hear? Minimal Techno with so little going on you can play four tracks at the same time a la Richie Hawtin?
Wrong!
First track I found from Siriusmo was a so-full-bore-it-verges-on-the-ridiculous-bass-bin-bothering glitch-hop monster, so as is my wont I went rummaging through the usual online pile of hidey holes to find me some more of the same. No dice on that front, but I did turn up this little gem of his from 2006.
Discosau sounds like bastard son of Hot Chip and the Eurythmics, conceived to a Clyde Stubblefield break. Managing to stay just the right end of chuggy with a hypnotic little bassline, I can’t stop listening to it.
It’s an oldie but a goodie, and if it flicks your switches you can pick it up on the MiniRock EP, which was released on Grand Petrol Recordings
I do have soft spot for some well constructed Electro-Swing beaty nonsense, and Buscemi (no-no, not the frogfaced Hollywood actor) has hit the spot with It Ain’t Right, No, No. If it does the business for you, it dropped over on Juno a few months back.
Love the big filter sweeps on the finger clicks then the squelch coming in …
Jimi Needles is a blog favourite, and its nice to see him having gone from exquisite bootlegs as a unsigned talent to to headlining Boogie Boutique tours to Oz. His latest tune, Swing Da Club is another hitting the sack of swing samples – you can tell where my head is this week can’t you – add beats and cheecky Fiddy vocal sample and we’re gravy.
Available as an exclusive fromJi the Boogie Boutique newletter right now – you heard me – FREE TUNES!
