Ahoy guys – it’s that time of the week again!
Three of the choicest cuts to hit my ears this week, passed onto yours in time for the weekend.
As ever if you like the kind of thing I drop, come and see my play live, and buy me a pint to say thanks … your next chance is this Saturday night at Basement 45 with the guys from Whomp for their now legendary annual Christmas Bad Jumper Party
First up this week is a track from one of the albums I’ve been looking forward to since I heard it was due. A Slice of Fried Gold features one of my favourite UK MCs Dr Syntax, over beats from one of the my favourite producers, Tom Caruana – so it’s a shoo-in for Three on a Thursday.
Built over a hook from Prince Buster’s Judge Dread, Syntax waxes lyrical over his seriously grotty digs – reminds me of by little brothers hovel at uni …
Next up is a seriously soulful cut from those boys over at Stones Throw. I’ve been a fan of The Stepkids from the first cut of their I heard, Legend In My Own Mind, and oddly enough, this is a remix of it featuring Percee P and Krondon – I guess this is cheating on the ToT rules a little, but I always thought this tune was begging for a vocal and these guys smash it
Last up this week is a wicked little mash from the uber-talented Jim Sharp. One part James Brown, mixed with one part Mystikal, I have a feeling Shake Ya Azz will wreck dancefloors … and I intend to find out on Saturday.
