Three on a Thursday #127

Currently lazing around in Cornwall, drinking amazing beer and messing around on the beach – yet I’ve still managed to find a little time to dig for tunes. Aren’t I good to you?

I came to DJing in a totally arse-about-face way, from computer nerd with a large mp3 collection in the 90’s before most people knew what they were, to getting Traktor and a controller, then decks, I now dig around for odd vinyl 7″s, hence me being a member of a few trading group on Facebook, collecting weird stiff and playing vinyl only sets …

This next track is a right Northern Soul stomper by Billy Butler on the Brunswick label which turned up on one of these groups – all driving double time drums and horn blasts. Belter!

I’ll Bet You you’ll like it … see what I did there?

New Loyle Carner alert!

Been a fan of this chap for a couple of years (since I heard Ain’t Nothing Changed in fact), and he’s *finally* dropped an album.

This new tune, Isle of Arran, and indeed the album it came off, heavily samples his fathers unknown and unreleased album. Loyle apparently had no idea the album even existed, as he lost his father when he was young, but has sampled it for many of the tunes on Yesterday’s Gone.

Big gospel vocal hook or what!

Last up this week is a lovely little re-edit by The Reflex of a funk-disco Jacko classic – P.Y.T. (Pretty Young Thing). Loving the bongo line in the intro on this one and the synth is to die for.

About djsherlockohms

Obsessive music nerd for since his formative years, Sherlock Ohms finally pulled his finger out and started inflicting his collection of Funk, Soul, Hip-hop, Reggae, Breaks, Beats and random ephemera on the unwitting public in mid-2008. Since then he's graced the airwaves of Big Chill FM and Purple Radio, the stages of the Festinho festival, and the DJ booths of the UK fluffing for the likes of DJ Moneyshot, Boca 45 and Ugly Duckling. Whether it's early morning chilled wig outs, or eclectic party starting beat fests there's a reason they call him 'No Shit Sherlock' View all posts by djsherlockohms
