I’m going to have to start calling this three on a Friday aren’t I?
First up this week is *another* belter from Andy Cooper – no I don’t have a man crush on him
Much.
The Get Down is a funky little party hiphop number with Djar One on the beats, a fair amount of input from James Brown and a little bit of Kool and The Gang
Available over here, though sadly not till September
Next is a little bit Afrobeat, a little bit Disco, and funky as hell.
Don Dayglow is back with another of his remixes, this time of Afrobeat legend Tony Allen’s track NEPA.
Proper chuggy goodness.
Went to Dot 2 Dot the other week here in Bristol with a few mates, playing the ‘avoid the indie-schmindie’ game, with at least partial success.
Whilst there was some utter crap on show, there were some nice bits and bobs, including Tender, who we saw on the good ship Thekla.
These guys were a lovely little diversion from some of the jangly by numbers guitar pop (though an honourable mention goes to Louis Berry, who was bloody good too)
The track which stuck in my head from the gig was Outside, all woozy bass guitar and harmonising vocals pitching the feeling between existential dread and yearning romance.
