Three on a Thursday #153


Finally got the kids to bed, best crack a beer and get on with this weeks tunes eh?

I’m a fan of a raw funk stomper, and The Grits track, Ug Ug Ah is a rawest, stompiest number I’ve heard in a good long while. Built around a simple guitar lick, with some swirling hammond and a funky as hell drum break, this should get you nodding along.

Next up is a new one from a crew I’ve been pushing for years, The Mouse Outfit. It’s Just Like That, with Black Josh and TrueMendous on the mic is right up my street. Jazzy laid back bass loops and a simple snare snap underpinning a few piano chord stabs provide a playground for the MC’s bars.

Last up this week is mellow as hell track from Leon Heywood. Best known as the source of *that* Dr Dre sample from Nothin’ But A G Thang, I Want’a Do Something Freaky To You is a slice of pure mid-70’s soul, with more than a touch of the boudoir to it.
