I’m not familiar with Bastien Keb, but on the promise of Fit Rare, I’ll have to go a’diggin into his back catalogue Insistent electronic string loop, simple snare drum cross stick and a shaker providing the beat for Cappo to do his thing over
(Last Cappo track I recall hearing was waaaaaay back in the mists of time on an old Mr Scruff compilation – I really should check out again.)
Telling tales of a drunken upbringing fighting and watching Mafia films, before finding his folks dead forced him to sober up, Trouble then drops in to a massive Gospel sample from Nobody knows the Trouble. Truly lush stuff.
Available on the Murderland album from a few years back
Last up this week a slice of woozy low key trippy hip hop. Rainman’s 24 Hours reminds me a little of early Loyle Carner, with that molasses slow chug, underpinned by long minor key piano chords, a nice understated drumline, and a deep rumble of a bassline.
I’m really looking forward to getting a decent high bitrate copy of this and finding some speakers which can carry that low end – ooof!
