Almost missed this week , courtesy of a iOS update … took a flippin age!
First up this week is a slice of mellow hip-hoppy/reggae nonsense from my man DJ Maars, who first featured on this ole blog waaaaay back in 2012, back in the days of the Riddim Fruit/Booty Fruit labels
Number One marries up the sultry vocals from Bahamadia – Uknowhowwedu, with a little snippet of Kenny Dope & Screechy Dan, all over a lovely lump of a Rocksteady riddim.
(and yes, this is the track I justified buying, on 7″, all the way from Australia … available now over on the Easy Now Recordings bandcamp
in 1980 Italo band, Change dropped Glow of Love featuring Luther Pantsoff .. ahem .. Vandross.
In 2001, Janet Jackson released seminal RnB hit, All for You.
It’s taken till 2018 for Young Pulse to put them together in the wonderfully chuggy little disco number, Glow of Love 4U. Worth waiting for I reckon
Last one was a bit of a stumble across – I was trying to find a link to the Screechy Dan vocal where the ‘here we go, yo’ vocal sample comes from for the DJ Maars track and found FU2′s track with an identical name, Boomin in a Ya Jeep – properly lovely old school 90’s hip-hop.
According to the (admittedly crap audio quality version) of the video, the director popped up on the YouTube comments, and claims that the video contains the first ‘drone shot’ footage for a band, as he rigged a camera to an old RC helicopter for the footage …
