Three on a Thursday #164

6361045527_31e94cb4fe_oA little late this week, as I’ve been in full on ‘enjoying my family mode’, and didn’t get round to this on Thursday, (or Friday or Saturday for that matter) – thing is I’m on a bit of a run of form at the moment, and there are some belters out there which I need to share with you lot

One that note …

Can’t remember where I stumbled across What The World by Funky Bijou,  but I’m glad I did . Kicking off with some almost latin stabs, which I think sampled steel drums?, a cracking little upbeat driving funk break pops up, with a silky soul vocal from Mafé

Was released by Stereophonk records a while back, but seems to be available here

I almost did a little wee when I heard this one announced. The Nextmen – who’s Personal Golf Instructions mix is  largely responsible for me taking up DJing, Gentlemen’s Dub Club – one of my favourite nuevo-ska groups, and one of the best Reggae MCs I’ve heard in the last few years, Gardna, who smashed it at last years Shambala, all together on the same track!

Rudeboy is a steppin’ dub-hop number, all waaahping horns and headnodding. Straight in the virtual bag for the summer!

They’re funding a 12 track album on Pledge Music, which was 94% funded at the time of writing – if you like it go and chuck them some cash for your own copy

Now *this* is a proper peak time anthem.

The original David Morales cut of Needin’ U is rightly a classic, and in honour of the 20th anniversary the 2009 remix by The Face vs Mark Brown been given a rerub by Dimitri from (Paris/Tokyo/Stoke-on-Trent/Whichever city he’s picked this time)

Taking a legendary track  like this and managing to give it new life is a knack this chap has, and taking it back to a more ‘live’ instrumentation works for me – still got those classic rising piano tones though!
