The sun is out!
Yay!
Anyone fancy some tunes to celebrate?
New band, and a new label for me for the first track this week, though not a new crate digger. Ex-Stetsasonic Daddy-O’s gives us Psychedelic Sally – proper New York emceeing over a heavy as hell funk break, hat’s not to like?
Available for preorder on 7″ over on the label bigcartel page (h/t to DJ Moneyshot for tipping me onto this one)
(If you like this sort of thing, I’ve been digging through the Origu back catalogue and there are some stormers in there!)
This next track is a slight cheat, as I first heard it at the recent Allergies gig at Colston Hall being spun by good buddy of the band (and myself) VJ and turntable extraordinaire DJ Cheeba. He dropped this belting hip-hop-over-a funk-banger track before he bowed out. I recognised the underlying track as Spanky Wilsons cover of Cream’s Sunshine of Your Love, but with a Wu-Tang vocal on it. After much wittering and some sleuthing, I found Czarface‘s track, Nightcrawler, with the legendary Method Man
Finally, here’s a delightful chuggy slab of deep disco-y house on the always reliable Razor N Tape label. The Groovers / Where I Belong was first released in 2013, but has just dropped on a rather lovely slice of canary yellow vinyl if that’s your bag.
