And just in time for Glasto as well, which to be fair descends into a Somme-like mire of cowshit and mud, complete with Trenchfoot and dodgy-food-van-related dysentery pretty much every other year.
Last night was mad prep for my eldest’s 8th birthday today (Happy Birthday Charlie!), so no red hot Thursday action from me, but I’m making up for it now.
Went to see good buddies of the blog, The Allergies, at their triumphant live gig at Bristol’s Colston Hall last Friday – an epic time was had by all, and afterwards, there was a proper spotter-fest at Cosies, with all sorts of oddities and rarities being spun by DJ Format, aided and abetted by local vinyl pusher and fount of all things record related, John Stapleton. Some of these may, let’s face it, will, feature below.
Its rare when I’m at a gig and can’t recognise 50% of the tunes being played, or at least which samples the track is using, but the DJ Format set had me foxed, and was one of the best selected sets of eclectic beats and breaks I’ve heard in a very long time.
Aaaah, and I’ve recovered – spent the weekend awake in the early hours of the morning, and went to three different parties …. unfortunately, the parties were all for kids under 6, and the sleeplessness was due to the youngest being awake half the night.
Still it’s to your benefit, as I was out watching two of Bristol’s finests funk DJs at The Lanes last night – The Allergies and Boca 45 (guys, it was lovely to see you lot again)
It’s felt like spring this week hasn’t it? Sun on my back, not getting utterly soaked and frozen cycling to work – I could get used to this (sadly, knowing the British weather, this is as good as it’ll get all year …)
Ok, I missed a week or so, but for once I have a far better excuse than my usual idiocy/slackness.
Beatrice Constance arrived on the 7th October, weighing in at 9lb 4oz and has thrown our world into a spin – I now have a 10 day old to look after as well as a 2 1/2 year old, so digging through heaps of tunes, carefully curating the finest from heaps of dross has been less of a priority (doesn’t mean I’ve stopped entirely, mind)
Right, that’s it with the excuses – I’ve had a couple of weeks to select some corking tunes for you …
Not, as you might expect, from riding 60 odd miles from London to Brighton for the British Heart Foundation on Sunday, (what was that? You want to sponsor me? Oh, go on then … ) but more from having my first proper falling off incident about 9hrs before I was due to start. I’ve not had road rash like this since I was about 15 years old.
Lesson learned, don’t spend many hours in the Kernel Brewery and then try and cycle across town afterwards.
